Sometimes life presents you with circumstances that you do not necessarily like. Your natural inclination when you encounter something that you don’t like is to resist it, to tell yourself that the circumstances or issue shouldn’t be there, or that it should be different.
The highest expression of integrity in relationship to life may be to express gratefulness for your current circumstances, – whatever they are; to embrace them wholeheartedly, which ultimately is an expression of your trust in life.
The other night, our daughter Carmen cried when she went to sleep in her room. I went to her room and asked her what the matter was. She said that she was fine. I said: “You are not fine, because you are crying.” She was not forthcoming to communicate with me. I felt left in a space of separateness. I felt left out, which has not happened very often. My thoughts were “What did I do?” and I asked myself the question: “Why is this happening?” I felt frustrated and kept dwelling on what she said, which did not bring me closer to any sense of peace, or resolution.
Sometimes the question “Why?” keeps you more stuck in the way it is, and keeps you in a space of separateness to life. It may not give you the opening to move beyond the circumstances of your life, – since what opens up and occurs to you as possible is limited by the way you are looking at your circumstances.
I know that my wife had said on several occasions: “Louis, Carmen is missing you. She is desperate to spend some time with you.” I recognize that I have been taking myself away lately in writing this book, in reviewing the edits, and in bringing the book to a place, where it can be published.
Living the possibility of a new language for life, I decided to take responsibility for my experience of Carmen not expressing herself freely with me, and I stopped resisting her response. The moment I did this, what came into presence was my love for her, and the realization that I have been absent in fully participating in our relationship for some time.
What came into presence restored me to the wholeness of the relationship, and my judgments and considerations why she was not communicating with me were no longer there. It is now occurs as natural to me to spend more time with her and bring balance to my participation in the family.
When you bring yourself to a place where you are willing to take responsibility for the circumstances of your life, stop resisting them, and extend yourself in expressing gratefulness for them inside of your trust in life, the “I,” that is resisting what is happening, tells you that things should be different, or how they ought to be, or is attached to the way it is, loses its hold on you and you are renewed in being present.
Expressing gratefulness for the circumstances of your life inside of your trust in life does not mean that you now are stuck with your current circumstances, give in to them, or you have given up on your commitment to enhance the quality of your life. It means that you now fully embrace and acknowledge the existence of your current circumstances inside of your trust in life, which allows for a new openness to life to come forward, and for life to come into presence in a new way.
When you move away from the “I” that brings you in a state of separateness to life, you are restored to the oneness of life and “being” is returned to you in its full presence. You could say that dying to the attachments of “I,” you are renewed in being present, and life opens up for you in an uncommon way, whether this is in your business, in a relationship that you care for, or inside of something that you are committed to.
Embracing the circumstances of your life wholeheartedly, – whatever they are -, acknowledges the oneness of life and brings you back in a space of wholeness to life, which is where the magic and invisible force of life lives. Being one with life, life now opens up and speaks to you, and something may come into presence that is unexpected and brings wholeness and perspective to the concerns you bring to life. What may come into presence is something that you may have overlooked inside your commitments to life; what may come into presence is a new perspective on the issues that you were considering.
Being one with life, allows you to step through the looking-glass of ordinary life, where you strive to improve the circumstances of your life, and you step into a world of “being,” where life comes into presence, either as a new perspective, or as the manifestation of your intentions.
When you have the courage to let go of the attachments of “I” that brings you in a space of separateness to life, what comes into presence restores you to the oneness and wholeness of life.
What may come into presence is a silence, where you don’t mind what happens; what may come into presence is love; what may come into presence is something that leads to appropriate action; what may come into presence is destiny engaging with you and grabbing you to do great things; what may come into presence is a life that you came to fulfill as a spirit on this earth.
Living the possibility of a new language for life, you are renewed in being present and you are restored to the oneness of life.
Thank you.
Your words of wisdom was deeply needed.
Expressing gratitude for the situation and allowing it to reveal it’s lesson instead of trying to change myself or the situation has struck a chord with my heart.
I don’t always understand clearly at first but your lessons are perfectly timed and presented.
Thank you
